Although I enjoyed Saigon/HCMC and I think it's worth a visit, if you're short on time in Vietnam I recommend visiting Hanoi. It gives you a taste of many of the best facets of Vietnam culture (including the food!) Explore for a few days at a minimum.

When I went to Hanoi, I had no idea what to expect. I had a fabulous time, I am vegan and I had no trouble finding cheap and delicious food no matter what corner I turned. The museums are all affordable and extremely fascinating, and the street shops are super fun to check out! This place has a vibe of its own and I’m definitely going to go again one day!

People aren't kidding when they say Vietnam is friendly. I know Thailand is officially the land of smiles, but everyone I encountered there was friendly. The pho and Bánh mì are to die for, the fruit is delicious, and the coffee-I took bags and bags home. The tour of Halong Bay was amazing, and I loved the Note coffee shop.
