The town often hosts the International Federation of Fly Fishers conclave and fair, while the annual NAIFC ice fishing tournament is held on nearby Hebgen Lake. There are plenty of blue ribbon trout streams in the area, as well as the serene Hebgen and Quake Lakes which are packed with fish.

If you prefer more active sports, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get your adrenaline pumping near West Yellowstone. During the spring, summer, and autumn the area is perfect for mountain biking and hiking. Mountain trails start right at the edge of town, so you can quickly get your day off to the perfect start.

With more than 160 inches of snow each winter, Yellowstone makes a great snow sports destination. There are miles of snowmobile and cross country skiing trails, as well as a raft of annual competitions such as the Yellowstone Ski Festival , the Youth Ski Races, and the Spam Cup Races (the winner takes home a specially decorated can of Spam).

West Yellowstone is a small town, but has a few attractions to keep you occupied when you’re not out and about in the park. There’s a museum covering the history of Yellowstone, and there’s a good range of restaurants and souvenir shops. The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Centre is a fun activity for animal lovers, as the centre is home to bears, wolves, and birds of prey. West Yellowstone is also home to Montana’s first IMAX Cinema.
