Located between Syracuse & Albany, in central New York State, the city of Utica is a logical place to stop for a break, when driving north from New York City, west from Massachusetts, east from Buffalo or Rochester & south from the Adirondacks. Although there are a few New York State Thruway exits in the Utica area, I recommend exit 31, for its proximity to many hotels & restaurants, shopping, & the city's most important attractions. The Utica area is filled with a variety of very good restaurants. Some of the best Italian food I have eaten, outside Italy, is in Utica's family owned restaurants. For many years, Utica's diverse population was dominated by those of Polish & Italian ethnicity. Most recently, there has been an influx of immigrants from Bosnia, Somalia, Thailand, Iraq & Burma. This welcoming of people from war-torn & politically oppressed countries has caught national attention & reflects Utica's old nickname as "The Handshake City".
My lucky city.
it has is ups and downs
