Bloomington's current claim to fame is the Mall of America, the IKEA across the street, and its proximity to the Twin Cities Airport. I knew it growing up as the home of the Twins and Vikings at the old Metropolitan Stadium and the arena where the old North Stars NHL Team played. Early settlers named the city after Bloomington, Illinois. On first glance, Bloomington has lots of commercial and residential development that makes this place seem like a faceless maze. Yet, this suburb has an extensive park system, and the city's south border with the Minnesota River is buffered by the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The later used to be a glorious way to get to the game and go home after.

Bloomington is just south of Minneapolis, with many hotels and some strip malls. It's probably most famous for Mall of the America.
