Hotels in Hua Hin (Prachuap Khiri Khan)

Hua Hin is Thailand’s oldest beach resort, and has been keeping Bangkok’s upper classes entertained since the 1920’s. Luxury hotels and holiday homes line the ocean front, where the peaceful fishing village sits side by side with the modern glass and steel buildings of the city.

Hua Hin is the Thai royal family’s favourite holiday destination. The King has a permanent residence by the sea: Phra Ratchawa Klai Kangwon, or Far From Worries Palace. It only takes a few days of relaxing on the beautiful beach, indulging at the spa, and exploring the verdant national parks to understand why he chose that name.

Despite the cosmopolitan atmosphere, you can still indulge in plenty of outdoor pursuits. Water-sports such as sailing, kayaking, and snorkelling are all on offer, and you can also take a pony ride along the beach. If you’re a golfer, you’re in for a treat. There are seven golf courses within driving distance of the city, and most offer transportation for golfers coming from Hua Hin. You might need to hire a car to reach the others.

There’s some beautiful scenery to discover nearby, and most hotels are happy to help guests to arrange a day trip with one of the tour companies. Khao Takiab hill is just over 8 miles from Hua Hin, and from the top you get some excellent views across the bay. It’s especially beautiful at sunset. For a longer excursion head to Namtok Pa La-u: an 11 tiered waterfall set in the dense forest of Kaeng Krajan National Park. It’s 37 miles from Hua Hin, but well worth the trip.

Unlike other Thai beach resorts, such as Ko Lanta and Ko Samui, Hua Hin isn’t a castaway beach resort. It offers the perfect blend between peaceful seaside and busy city. Venture into Hua Hin and you’ll find lots going on: from delicious street food stalls and noisy night markets to swanky shopping malls and trendy bars. There’s also a great range of hotels, with lots of big name chains as well as some boutique options.
