Zacatecas is a picturesque colonial town, with cobblestone streets and small-town ways. It's in high desert country, warm and dry. It was a silver mining town, and a tour of the old mine, El Eden, is a must. There is a club up the mountain in an old mne, a spectacular view from La Bufa, with it's tribute to Pancho Villa, and interesting museums to explore. This is not one of the cities packed with foreign tourists, and is a relatively small city, so it's a pleasure to walk the streets and enjoy the atmosphere at all hours. And not to be missed is the uniquely Zacatecan 'Callejoneada' where a band meanders through the streets, gathering listeners and dancers along the way, with plenty of mezcal or tequila being served in little ceramic shot glasses hung around the neck. The city of 'Plata y Cantera' is definitely a destination to aim for in Mexico.
I was in Jerez for over a week and had lots of fun.
