Hotels in Montego Bay

Turquoise waters, pure white sands, and more A-listers than you can shake a stick at: it’s easy to see why Montego Bay is one of the world’s most sought after holiday destinations. Mo’bay, as it’s affectionately known, is the quintessential Caribbean paradise. With a beach for every day of the week, a glamorous nightlife, and some of the most luxurious hotels Jamaica has to offer, there are few better choices for a relaxing holiday in the sun.

The day to day life of Montego Bay may take place downtown, but when it comes to hotels the best places to stay can be found by the beach.

Known by locals as ‘Hip Strip’, Gloucester Avenue is where it’s at. By “it” we mean most of the nightlife, as well as most of the tourist infrastructure. The street runs parallel to the sea, and is packed with lively nightclubs as well as chain restaurants and cheesy themed bars. There’s loads of chic hotels just off the strip, so it’s not far to stumble home after a big night.

Walter Fletcher Beach, which is just off Gloucester Avenue, is a great destination if you’re visiting Montego Bay with children. The waters here are calm, offering great conditions for a paddle, and most of the nearby hotels offer packed picnics so you can enjoy lunch on the beach. If your hotel doesn’t offer this service, never fear. Walter Fletcher beach has a great infrastructure, with plenty of street vendors and chilled out restaurants.

Cornwall beach is another great place to hit the sand. Also located just off the Hip Strip, this beach is well suited for party animals. There are frequent beach parties with live music and games, as well as places to rent snorkelling gear. If you get bored of chilling out on the sand, take a suba diving trip. Cornwall beach sits on the Montego Bay Marine Park, and it’s possible to head out and see the colourful coral and tropical fish up close.

For celebrity spotting, head north-west to Doctor’s Cave beach. For a century it’s held the honour of being one of Jamaica’s most famous beaches. Once an exclusive bathing club, Doctor’s Cave is now a lively area full of high-end resorts as well as smaller beachfront hotels. The crystal clear waters are fed by an underwater stream, and it’s sheltered enough to offer excellent swimming conditions.
