Cannobio is another one of Lago Maggiore’s picturesque towns. Dating from the late 900s, the town was substantially, and with historical care, refurbished in the early 2000s. Steps lead down to the town’s lakefront piazza that consists primarily of one restaurant, next to another, next to another. They are relaxing places from which to watch the lake traffic but for much better quality food, go to the upper levels of the town. I have enjoyed meals at the Grotto Al Mater and at the restaurant at the Gorge of S. Anna. The church at San Gottardo sits on top of the mouth of the Gorge of S. Anna. Across the road from the church is the start of a trail that takes you down to the river flowing out of the gorge and follows the river through a lovely, natural setting almost back to the central city.
Cannobio is a picturesque cobblestoned city on Lago Maggiore in northern Italy. So much to explore downtown and on the various hiking paths on the outskirts of town. Enjoyed the sunny warm weather on the family friendly, free beach. I braved the frigid lake temps and swam in the crystal clear waters. Every night there was a free program put on by the city: Jazz Band, Comedy Show, Zumba, 6K Running Race. Loved my week there!
