Tiberias is a great modern city that remains well rooted in its historical past. The city is built of an incline overlooking the Sea of Galilee, which makes for some fantastic views. Good shopping and dining make this city a great base from which to explore northern Isreal.
You are a part of history in Tiberias. Dip in the Sea of Galilee, and explore sites which are written about in the Bible. A mix of ancient and modern, shopping and no matter where you are, you have a tremendous view of the lake.
Beautiful city, with a perfect mix of modern hotels, restaurants and shopping, but historical ruins seemingly around every corner. The entire city has a view of the lake.
Quite scenic and still has the flavor of a "long time ago." Used to live on a moshav there called Arbel. It's a mix between a farm and a kibbutz in people own and work their own land/ animals, but they may barter, exchange, or sell their products between each other. All the farms share a common school, market, ect. If you can, plan at the very least a day trip to the Kineret, better yet, a camp out. The water is amazingly warm and clear ( bring shoes cuz the bottom is rocky), and there are dozens of excellent fish spots dotted around the lake. Take the time to walk around its entirety - you'll meet awesome people and have a great time!
