The lake is beautiful! However if you are looking for a really nice tourist spot then this is not the place for you and you should head to Panajachel or San Pedro where most tourist go. A lot of tourist come here for a day trip then leave. If you are looking for a beautiful view and don't mind a small town with not much to do then you will like this place. I like it as it's nice to not just go to all the tourist spots and it gives you a real look of life in a village of Guatemala. I only have it 3 stars in terms of tourist attractions.

A beautiful little town in a smaller more protected part of the lake. Take horseback rides, or climb volcanoes with a guide. Great views, and more secluded, but also not the safest place. Everyone carries a machete in the area for farming and the such, but they are also used opportunistically to rob travelers. Definitely ask around before going out for a walk.

Small town across lake Atitlan from Panajachel. You can access it by road or more popularly by ferry from Panajachel. It is located between two volcanoes, which provides for a lot of opportunities for cool pictures.
