San Salvatore Monastery
Unique, harbour view apartments in the former San Salvatore Monastery. San Salvatore was a Franciscan Monastery. The Venetians built the Monastery after the 4th Crusade, on the west side of the harbour, where originally a Byzantine church existed. Preserved to this day, this small domed chapel houses the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection of Chania. The south section of the monastery which contained the monks' cells and the common areas, today houses the guest house (two apartments), two residencies and the headquarts of Dialogus Educational Association. The San Salvatore monastery is one of the very few historical buildings left in Chania which still has its original cloister, offering total privacy from the outside world as well as inquisitive eyes elsewhere in the building. Located at the very end of the promenade and overlooking the Venetian harbour, in the quiet neighbourhood of Topanas, behind the nautical museum and opposite the San Salvatore Bastion, where the North-West Gate to the old town used to be, the Monastery is characterized by the Ephorate of Antiquities and UNESCO as a historical monument to be preserved (listed building). All spacious apartments offer views over the old harbour. Both apartments have private outdoor areas and the property has its private parking on site. The nearest airport is Chania International Airport (CHQ), 7.5 miles (30 min drive) from San Salvatore.
