Bavaria 2012 - trip Allgau - Oberstaufen - Wasserborg Oberstaufen is a stunningly picturesque town located in Bavaria's Allgäu region. Having spent a few days in lovely Munich I was intrigued to get to know what Bavaria is like outside the big city. I was recommended by a “Münchener” (inhabitants from Munich) to spend a few days in Oberstaufen as it is only a 2 hour train ride away from Munich with no transfer required. What a brilliant idea! I quickly met other people at the hotel I stayed at who took me to beautiful Lindau located at Lake Constance (bordering Germany, Switzerland and Austria). Oberstaufen is surrounded by breathtaking scenery including lovely lakes, pristine forests, rolling hills and stunning mountains. I didn’t book my hotel in advance as I wanted to have a look around town first to see which hotel would best meet my wish to stay in a centrally located & traditional Bavarian hotel. Unfortunately my first choice option - Hotel Löwen - was fully booked. The very friendly staff at reception got me a room at Löwen’s sister Hotel Bayerischer Hof (www.bayer-hof.de), located right next door to Hotel Löwen and just as charming and traditional as its smaller sister Löwen. What I liked most about Oberstaufen? It’s a small picturesque Bavarian town yet has lots of excellent high end fashion shops, lovely restaurants, pubs and bars...party, party and trust me you will not stay alone….
