Puerto Viejo is a great place to take it easy for a few days. There are Caribbean flavors and a slow beach town feeling. It's beautiful, over run with tourists, but worth a visit.

Puerto Viejo is a hidden gem! I recently visited this place and I fell in love with the people, the atmosphere, the culture and all this place has to offer. Puerto Viejo quickly becomes a place you can call home :) the beaches are great, the food and vibes are just so magnetic. Definitely coming back to PV... PURA VIDA

Nice beach, nice people, nice music. You can find everything in Puerto Viejo, from local culture as Rasta man and Bribri natives, to sushi and international cuisine.

Costa Rica's Caribbean coast is relatively sleepy in comparison with other Central American hot spots, but Puerto Viejo, the tiny beach town in the country's southeastern corner, is the best bet for a laid-back Caribbean getaway. The beaches are beautiful (from pristine white sands to silty, ethereal black sand), the food is delicious (banana pancakes and jerk chicken and fish), and there is never a shortage of cold Imperials and live reggae music. Viva 'Pura Vida'!
