Belo Horizonte is Brazil’s fifth largest city, and according to the United Nations, has the best quality of life in Latin America. Belo Horizonte makes up for its lack of coastline with fantastic nightlife: it has more bars per capita than any other city in Brazil. It’s not all partying, however. The city is full of museums and parks, and boasts a packed cultural calendar. Whatever time of year you visit Belo Horizonte, you’re sure to be welcomed by arts, music, theatre, and literary events.
Like all major cities, Belo Horizonte can be divided up into districts. Each area of the city has its own atmosphere, and whatever you’re looking for from your trip, it’s worth taking some time to explore.
The centre of Belo Horizonte is one of the best places to base yourself if you really want to be in the heart of the action. As well as having some of the busiest squares in the city, Prace Sete and Praca de Estacao, it is also home to some of the city’s best sights. Make time in your schedule for the imposing neo-gothic and neo-classical Igreja Sao Jose, the municipal park, and the arts and craft museum. There’s also a worthwhile flea market each Sunday, where you can pick up some unique souvenirs.
If you’re planning a night out in Belo Horizonte, the Savassi neighbourhood is the place to go. Savassi is famous for the countless restaurants, bars, bistros, and nightclubs that line the streets. As such, it’s one of the most sought after areas in Belo Horizonte, and is home to a number of boutique and chain hotels. There’s no doubt that Savassi is the place to see and be seen: whether it’s relaxing with an espresso in a café terrace, or partying the night away in a private club.
Brazil’s dedicated followers of fashion know that this Italian influenced neighbourhood in the South-Central area of the city is the place to be. Not only is Barro Preto home to over a thousand shops, its residents are also well known for their distinct style choices. The boutiques of Barro Preto sell everything, from quirky and unique shoes to statement accessories. There are plenty of hotels in this super trendy part of town too, so you really can shop ‘til you drop.
When it comes to luxury hotels in Belo Horizonte, the majority of them are located in the glamorous Lourdes district. This upscale neighbourhood is well known for its tree-lined streets, designer shops, and fancy eateries. It may not be in the center of the action, but it still makes a great base for exploration. As well as being quite upmarket and desirable, it’s also within walking distance of the bustling nightlife of Savassi.
Belo Horinzonte means Beautiful Horizon. With its 7 rolling hills, its an interesting inland city in Minas Gerais state, which full of gems and minerals.
Wonderful city for who wants to enjoy the nightlife but also really enjoy a day life. In BH, you can find many different things to do, without talking about the nature around the city that is really beautiful too.
Belo Horizonte: a great combination of urban space and garden city in Minas Gerais. The city, surrounded by the business world, full of cars, buildings, busy by the large number of people who live here, also has its bucolic side and has amazing places to be enjoyed.
Best city in Brasil to live!
