Southbank is the cultural hub of Brisbane city. A favourite place for Brisbane locals and travellers alike. With many things to do and see in Southbank, the Museum, GOMA (Gallery Of Modern Art), The Performance centre, Imax theatres, The Big Wheel, as well as the markets and swimming pools for those needing a cool down on a hot day. The side streets have many cafes and restaurants to delight the tastebuds and if you can't find one to tempt you, I'd be very surprised. Parking is available in any of the underground carparks and if you dine in one of the restaurants, ask them the validate your parking ticket and your parking will be free. There are many sites to see in Southbank which also has a performance drome, often found to have free performances there in the weekends. The Nepalese Temple at the northern end of the park is a stunning example of craftsmanship. It was hand made in Nepal by master craftsmen, and brought to Southbank for the 1988 World Expo, and at the end of the expo, the BCC bought the building which has been onsite ever since. The craftsmanship of this building is so exquisite that there is not one nail or screw in its structure....a true credit to the worth of the men who crafted it. Southbank is also a place where one can take a trip on the famous Brisbane City, Citycats. These fast ferries will offer a trip from St Lucia upriver, to Bretts Wharf down river near the Portside Cruise Ship Terminal. One can get on and off anywhere at all but is advisable to purchase a 'Go Card' to use public transport in Brisbane as public transport is not the cheapest. These can be purchased from certain news agents and train stations. This link will help the traveller to locate a go-card.
