I imagine this wine region would be more globally popular if Perth wasn't so relatively hard to reach. I have to wonder whether new nonstop flights from London will increase Margaret River's ubiquity. I loved being here during the Australian autumn!
Margaret River is about a three hour drive south of Perth and the centre of the south-west wine region. It is an ideal location to spend a long weekend, as it has many beaches, bush walks and vineyards to explore. Along the coast, Margaret River is known for some of the best surf breaks in the world and each year hosts the Margaret River Pro surf competition, where the best surfers in the world come to show off their talents. The Margaret River region is also host to many caves that are open to the public.
Just stunning! The wineries are fantastic - but there's sooo much more as well! The beaches are spectacular, the bush walks are incredible - make sure you explore the region, just so much more than a winery destination.
As swank as Napa with very boldly designed buildings and vineyards. This is not the mom & pop style of NSW's Hunter Valley. However, the sleek design doesnt make for extra attitude, in fact its just as laid back but spot-on as the rest of Oz. Must got to MUST the wine bar and resto located both in Perth and in Margaret River proper. Must also go to the beach.
