This is the port for Perth which is a 30 minute train ride. The town is very compact and even has some free buses that go around the area. Nice restaurants and shops but the shops close early. Train station is just outside the central area and a 20 minute walk from the port area.
This is a lively place with plenty of things to do. There are lots of restaurants with harbor views, coffee shops along the Cappuccino Strip, a weekend market, microbreweries, and historic buildings. I really enjoyed just grabbing an ice cream and hanging out in the big grassy park opposite the harbor. This university town, a suburb south of Perth, hosts plenty of festivals and concerts, as well.
Go to Fremantle! Small suburb, big personality! Lots of art, delicious organic fancy cafes, gorgeous beaches, and a great music scene. Fremantle is young, we couchsurfed there at a house full of hippies who cooked a community dinner each week for everyone who wanted to show up. Everyone was friendly and happy to be exactly where they were. Fremantle is lovely to visit or to stay.
This is a totally relaxing town. The pace here is slow and easy. Enjoy a flat white at one of the many cafe.
