Very pleasant and bustling cruise port. The town is touristy but maintains some genuine gold rush historic flavor. Lots of excursion outfitters for the cruisers. We got off here to do a bit of shopping and to took a fantastic kayak tour.
Skagway is a stop on Alaska Inside Passage cruises. It is fun to walk around the town to take a step back in time. There are at least 100 buildings remaining from the Gold Rush era.
Visitors to the area can hop on a railway or street car tour. The downtown area is about 10-15 minutes away by foot or you can take a shuttle there. Downtown itself is only 7 blocks long, but has various options for shopping and a few restaurants as well.
Skagway has one highway that takes you to the border of Canada, so don't make this mistake of forgetting your passport like my family and i! We rented a car in town and its probably a more cheaper alternative than the train and also your own choices of stopping at where ever you like for pictures. You will see plenty of waterfalls and the view is seriously amazing ?!
