I loved Austin! Good food, sweet people, hot weather and fun night life! This is a wonderful place!
Sixth street offers plenty of options for entertainment every day of the week. Austin is centrally located as well and San Antonio (6 Flags, Seaworld, River Walk, Alamo) and Houston (Johnson Space Center) are well within reach. The Texas Hill Country, river floats, and Schlitterbahn water park are also appealing options. You can’t really go wrong in this area.
As a native Houstonian and former Austin denizen, I’d be remiss to omit details of its beautiful, metropolitan chaparral: for the adventurous I’d recommend the auburn slopes of Enchanted Rock or a hike along the impact greenbelt. Silkier park is ideal for families, ACL hosts the hipster holy grail of music festivals, and SXSW is an ideal proscenium for indie filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts alike. As for food, Torchys Tacos cannot be missed, neither so is the amazing Mexican vanilla at Amy’s Ice Cream - it almost makes me regret going vegan...almost.
A lot newer and cleaner than I’ve expected. Lots of new shiny glass tall buildings and very clean hipster type city.
