what a wonderfull city ,super people and a real kick ass destination,music ,sites to see,shopping and a really great city .
There's lots to do and see in Manchester, but it's a quick one-hour trip (or less) to get to Liverpool -- a vibrant city I highly recommend visiting too if you've got the time.
I took a train from Manchester to Liverpool for a day trip and walked around the city for about 4 hours. Got to see the bar where Beatles originated.
