I had never considered going to Santander beforehand. It really is a hidden gem of Spain. The city has a lot to offer, especially in terms of the landscape and the beautiful beaches it hosts. The city is home to numerous cheap but lovely restaurants. I felt very safe walking around the city at night, even when staying in a slightly poorer area of the city. The people were all very friendly and really appreciate if you speak Spanish with them. You can also get the bus to Bilbao for around €7
Santander was the first town I visited in Spain, mainly because of a RyanAir flight from London that cost around $30. There are excellent beaches here and the people are very friendly, though they don't speak English. Near the port there is excellent seafood and the locals like to hang out in the courtyards drinking wine and talking.
A great city in the north of Spain that has wonderful and expansive beaches surrounding the city. Come here to enjoy a great climate, laid back people, and, of course, the beaches!
Excellent place for a quick getaway or for a longer holiday
