Absolutely the best place to visit ever. It is a country you must visit in your lifetime.
Skopje is the capital of the country and it's biggest city. First impression of it - Monuments. There are too many of them. Yes, it's kitschy, but from now on you will know how it shouldn't look like. Besides, Skopje is worth to stay here more than for one day to feel it. The biggest Old Bazaar in the Balkans is here.
I found Skopje, the capital and largest city of Macedonia (500,000) quite entertaining and eclectic, It is a place I would have enjoyed spending more time in. The main plaza area has undergone a make-over as the government has spent big money on huge rather cheesy statues having a feel of Viva Las Vegas. However, I like the "effort" to build the national spirit. The city has a wonderful bazaar are called "Carsija", there are lots of inexpensive restaurants. Also the national theater is impressive and the history museum which provides an indepth tour of the country's turbulent history.
The new constructions in the center of the city are nice, although they still are a work in progress, but other than that, there isn't much else to see.
