Palembang is the capital city of South Sumatra. The area is rich with natural resources and are the base of many coal mining operations, oil palm plantation, fertilizer company as well as oil and gas operation. It is also rich in culture given the presence of Sriwijaya Kingdom hundreds of years ago. It is well known for its fish cakes (mpek mpek) as well as Songket (woven cloth with rich colored and goldish thread). This is one of the places in Indonesia where you can still find traditional wooden house
