October
Based on a typical 1 week holiday - adding together the cost of flights and accommodation - October is the cheapest month to go to Cologne.
I went there driven by the beautiful cathedral (which is impressive, by the way), but was a little bit deceived by the rest of the city.
Great place, make sure you try the local Kölsch beer and eat a Döner sandwich
In my opinion: No. 3 City of Germany (after Berlin and Hamburg) - with more than one Million inhabitants it's the greatest town in the west of Germany. Town was bulid by Romans as Colonia Claudia Ara Aggrippinensium (CCAA) for more than 2000 years ago. That means also that Cologne is one of the oldest Cities in Europe. The Cologne Cathedral is the most visited building in the Country. Even the town is well known for the "fifth season", called Carnival. Often the People of Cologne say: Cologne is Not only a town, it's a feeling. Last but Not least there is a local Speciality called Kölsch, a beer.
One of my favorite cities in Europe - and sorely underrated. Most people pass right through or only come here on business, but if you stop and "smell the roses," you'll find Cologne enchanting and charming.
