Toulon is a beautiful seaside city only 45 minutes from Marseilles by train. The harbor area is filled with great restaurants and the beaches are not far away!
This beautiful town is located right on the coast, about an hour train ride from Marseille. The historic center can be explored with the "step by step" guide - a series of metal markers that take you past the interesting locations of the town. We were here on Saturday for the quaint street markets. Also, you can buy a pass for €6 for the buses, ferry to the islands and a cable car up the mountain. Great place to spend a day!
Only 40 minutes by train from Marseille. A bit dead, didn't like the overall feel. Has a big market place with some nice bars. Dominated by the military harbour, if you like looking at luxury boats and ships that look like the Titanic, go there. We had a chance to catch an airshow that was quite impressive...
