Spent two weeks here take French classes. It has secured it's place as my favorite French city. Definitely come for the food, the croix rousse area, the fete des luminees and the FOOD.

Lyon is just an amazing city and so underrated, in my opinion. I would highly recommend it for someone who loves food, art and history but would like to get off the beaten track. The little restaurants and patisseries in Vieux Lyon are absolute treasures. Also, the Musée De Confluences was a surprise favourite - one of the most well-curated museums in the world. At least, in this travellers experience. Don't forget to take the furnicular for a great view of the city and also take the vaporetto boat for a new way to experience Lyon.

Come for the food and the old city but fall in love with friendly people, great green spaces, and interesting modern architecture. Lyon is remarkably livable and relative inexpensive vs. Paris.
