I briefly walked the streets of The Pas as part of a short layover at the train station while traveling on VIA's Hudson Bay train from Winnipeg to Churchill. This route and Calm Air are the only ways to get to Churchill from the rest of Canada. The Pas is also known as the "Gateway to the North". The town itself is fairly small and you can walk a lot of it within the short amount of time that the train stopped at the station. And at this point in the train's journey, the First Nations culture really does open up. So does the increasingly isolated landscape. It was all visually stunning in its own way and it often stretched for miles and miles in all directions.
