Iberia baggage allowance at a glance
What's Iberia hand baggage allowance?
Iberia economy customers can bring a 10kg cabin bag and a personal item with them on board - which is pretty generous by today's airline standards! Even if you're travelling in the lowest economy fare you're entitled to bring both bags, just make sure they meet the size restrictions to avoid having them checked in at the gate.
If you're flying in business class, your cabin bag can be heavier - up to 14kg - and depending on your route, you may be entitled to bring multiple cabin bags (the further you fly, the more bags you can bring).
There are a few exceptions to the rules for hand baggage allowance for Iberia airlines, which include:
If you're flying to or from the US, you may only bring one personal item and one cabin bag with you onboard, regardless of your ticket class
If you're flying from London, no one bag can exceed 190cm in length
If you're on an Iberia flight which is being operated by Vueling, your cabin bag must not exceed 55cm x 40cm x20cm
If you're travelling with an infant, Iberia allows you to bring an extra bag for your little one's necessities, such as food, drinks, nappies etc.

What is Iberia's checked baggage allowance?
The size, weight and number of bags you can check in on an Iberia flight depends on your destination and ticket type, but generally 23kg per bag is allowed in all classes.
Broadly, a 23kg checked bag is included in all economy class flights except for the cheapest, called 'fare basic' (for which you only receive a cabin bag allowance). If you're flying in premium economy or business class, you may be entitled to two 23kg bags as part of your ticket.
Iberia encourage passengers to use their baggage calculator to find out exactly how many bags are included in their ticket and the cost of bringing additional bags or weight. We strongly recommend consulting their calculator before you fly, as there is not a full breakdown the baggage allowance for Iberia airlines online.
Here's an overview of Iberia's checked baggage allowances:
Iberia's max hold baggage size | Iberia's hold luggage weight allowance | Number of hold bags allowed |
|---|---|---|
158cm total dimensions (add height, length and width to calculate this) | Depends on your destination and ticket type. Generally 23kg per bag, but can be up to 32kg | 9 extra bags in addition to those included in your ticket |
How much do checked bags cost with Iberia airlines?

Your destination
How heavy your bags are
What platform you use to pay

What are Iberia airline's excess baggage fees?
Iberia's excess baggage fees are charged by the kilo, so the amount you pay will depend on how far over your 23kg allowance you are (up to a maximum of 32kg). Be aware that since these fees are paid at the airport, it may be cheaper to add additional bags online before you fly, rather than pay excess fees on flight day.
Business class passengers receive free excess baggage, while economy and premium economy passengers will be charged £12 (€15) per kilo when flying to America and Asia, and between £10 (€12) and £12 (€15) per kg when flying domestically or to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
How can I avoid excess baggage fees?
Start by taking a look at our tips for avoiding excess baggage fees at the airport. To avoid spending more on your baggage allowance for Iberia airlines specifically, you can either book business class tickets, or sign up to their loyalty scheme and work towards a reward level which includes free excess baggage as a perk.
For example, Infinita Prime, Infinita, Platino and Platino Prime members travelling in Economy or Premium Economy receive free excess baggage on all flights operated by the Iberia Group (Iberia, Iberia Regional Air Nostrum and Iberia Express). This includes flights to the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico or Canada which are operated by Iberia, British Airways or American Airlines.
Members in lower tiers such as Oro and Plata, travelling in Economy or Premium Economy, still receive free excess baggage on all flights operated by Iberia.
