Who needs bright sunshine and striking scenery? Not Chengdu. Delicious Sichuan cuisine, super cute pandas, chilled out teahouses and lively nightclubs more than make up for the dismal weather and flat cityscape. It might be a sprawling city with a vibrant cultural scene, but the laid back locals will make you feel like you’re in one of China’s friendliest towns. You don’t have to go far to see some beautiful scenery, either. Chengdu is the main travel hub for exploring western China, with Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park and Qingcheng Mountain within striking distance.
