What the weather’s like

As you can expect, Barcelona experiences sizzling summer temperatures between June and August: it's not ideal for seeing the city on foot, but if you're here for beach days, bar hopping and shopping in cool, air-conditioned stores, it's a great time to be here. Spring and autumn are better for avoiding heatstroke and the summer crowds, and in winter, you'll be treated to an almost empty Barcelona, even if there are a few showers and cold spells. The temperature only drops to around 2-3ºC, so it's not too cold either.

City guide: what to see and do

Gaudi Museums, House and Galleries: Park Guell, Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, and Casa Battllo are iconic works of Antoni Gaudi, the Catalan artist and architect from Reus. Even if you're not on a tour, you can't avoid Gaudi's influence in the city – the iconic curved buildings are a signature style of his!

Explore Las Ramblas: La Boqueria is the main foodie market off Las Ramblas that everyone raves about. Make sure you visit during the late afternoon to score a table at one of the seafood bars though, before meandering down the main street, bartering with stalls and trying plenty of sangria in the surrounding bars.

Shop: You could spend a whole day raiding Mango, Zara and the other high street shops here, or you could go all out on Passeig de Garcia – this is one of the most expensive, luxury shopping streets in Europe.
