Going to Burning Man 2026? Here’s how to find official tickets, get to Black Rock City, and experience the desert like never before.
A transient city is resurrected in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for one week a year. Built by the festival goers themselves, global artisans come together for workshops, installations and to experience Arizona’s arid desertscapes like nowhere else on the planet. And then, when the party’s over, so too is the DIY metropolis. Traceless. Except for your Instagram footprint.
So, it’s needless to say that getting to Burning Man from the UK can take a bit more effort than booking the average festival. There are no direct flights to the closest airport. And when you’re there, there are no hotels nor permanent accommodation to check into. Burning Man is meant to be the ultimate test of self reliance, but there are no rules against using our help to plan your trip. In-fact, you should, and here’s how.

What is Burning Man, and why go?
Burning Man is unlike any other festival you’ve ever been to. There’s no main stage, nor headline act. When the event ends, it does so with a bang but not quite like at Glastonbury or Coachella. This quasi social experiment culminates in the igniting of a giant effigy, the burning man, which gives this annual global gathering its name.
The entire point of Burning Man is for participants to come together from all over the world to collectively create Black Rock City; a community of camps, performances, workshops and of of course, the enormous interactive artworks that the festival has become known for.
There are no shops in the makeshift city, nor currency. Instead, goods and services are swapped on an exchange- basis with a view to foster comraderie and kinship. And at the end of it all, a cathartic bonfire to finalise the festival and the end of the non-existent city. That is, until the next summer.
Each year, there is a theme for the event, and in, 2026, ‘Axis Mundi’ will explore the interconnectedness between people and the natural world.
When and where is Burning Man Festival?
In 2026, Burning Man festival will take place from 30 August until 7 September, in the remote, Nevada Black Rock Desert.
The closest airport to the currently non-existent Black Rock City is Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), around 3 hours away by car. Alternatively, you can also drive to Black Rock City from San Francisco, or take the Burner Express bus. However, once you’ve entered Black Rock City, only pre-registered Mutant Vehicles are permitted to drive around.
Mutant Vehicles are mobile artworks, either built from scratch or transformed so radically that the original car, bus or golf cart is barely recognisable. Think illuminated creatures, roaming ships and fire-breathing mechanical animals. They must be approved and licensed by Burning Man’s Department of Mutant Vehicles before they can operate in Black Rock City, so unless you’re riding an official giant moving octopus, fire-breathing dragon, or a pirate ship, walking or cycling are your only options for exploring the ‘open playa’.
Can you still get Burning Man 2026 tickets?
Yes. Burning Man’s OMG Sale opens on 29 July (8pm UK time), but you need to have registered beforehand. Registration opens on 20 July at the same time, but it does not guarantee a ticket.
Tickets are priced at various tiers: from $550 to $3,000 (not including tax and additional fees), though there are only limited number of $550 and $675 tickets available. A limit of two tickets per purchase is in place along with one vehicle pass per purchase, which costs $165.
Alternatively, there is the Secure Ticket Exchange Program, (STEP), Burning Man’s official resale system. STEP opened in March and will remains open until 28 August, although availability depends on existing ticket holders returning tickets.
Availability, prices and sale details can change, so check the official Burning Man ticket page before making non-refundable travel bookings.

How do you get to Burning Man from the UK?
Most UK travellers can choose between two main air routes:
Fly to Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO)
Fly directly to San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Reno is the closer option but even though San Francisco has a much longer onward journey, there are direct flights from London.
Whichever airport you chose, it’s worth planning to land a few days before so you have time to buy food, water and bulky supplies. Booking a hotel night after Burning Man is just as useful so you can shower, clean your belongings, and rest before a long journey home.

How can Skyscanner help plan the journey?
Burning Man has fixed event dates, but the rest of the trip can be flexible in terms of travel planning:
Compare routes
Search both Reno and San Francisco rather than assuming the closest airport will automatically produce the best journey.
A Reno flight may involve a connection but reduce ground travel. A San Francisco flight may be direct but require a longer bus journey. Compare options to both, including baggage allowances and layover options to get a better sense of the total flight cost before deciding.
Track more than one route
Set Price Alerts for both destinations while you finalise tickets, camp arrangements and ground transport.
Skyscanner Price Alerts monitor selected fares and notify you when the price changes, so if there’s a drop, you can act quickly.
Use flexible dates sensibly
You cannot move Burning Man, but you may be able to move your flight by a day or two. Comparing nearby travel dates may reveal cheaper flights, shorter layovers or more convenient arrival times.
What should UK first-timers know before booking?
A Burner Express ticket, flight or hotel booking does not provide access to Burning Man. Use an official sale or STEP.
There are no conventional hotels inside Black Rock City. Most participants sleep in tents, recreational vehicles or camp structures. Decide whether you will join a camp or camp independently, and confirm what shelter and shared infrastructure will be available.
Heavy consumables are generally more practical to buy after landing but…
Do not assume everything will still be available at the last minute. Reno becomes extremely busy around Burning Man, so coordinate purchases with your camp and travel companions.
Burning Man’s Leave No Trace principle means taking responsibility for everything you bring. Plan space for rubbish, dusty clothing and reusable equipment. Do not abandon bicycles, tents or unwanted supplies at the airport or in Reno.
