Skyscanner: officially a great place to work

We've been awarded another great place to work award. So what makes us different?

We don’t like to boast, but here at Skyscanner we’re pretty lucky. We’ve been rated as a top workplace multiple times, from multiple sources. Whether it’s coming 6th in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies To Work For listing, or yesterday’s HR Network’s ‘Best Workplace of the Year’ award, we’re delighted that we’re recognised so widely as a fantastic place to work.

So what makes this place quite so great? Read on.

Everyone loves a company perk, but at Skyscanner we go a little further. Added extras include bonus schemes, a share incentive plan, flexible working, healthcare, dental and optical cover and much more. Fancy a break? Buy extra holidays or treat yourself to one of our subsidised massages. Sometimes, though, it’s the little things that people get most excited about – the lack of dress code, the free soft drinks, fruit and fruit juice, barista coffee machines and plenty of ways to relax too: table tennis, foosball, PlayStation and Xbox to name just a few.

Exciting, strategic, fun and innovative

We’re a highly motivated, highly skilled and highly satisfied bunch. The top words employees use to describe life at Skyscanner? Exciting, strategic, supportive, open, trusting, fast paced, accountable, confident, collaborative, fun, innovative, united, proactive and focussed.

Sushi making? Language skills?

At Skyscanner, we’re big on personal development too. Through our Skyscanner University programme, employees have the flexibility to choose what courses and personal development they’d like without any need for approval from a manager. Courses range from business related or learning a new language to the slightly left-field; sushi-making or photography, anyone?

In our recent employee survey:
• 93% feel that they have good opportunities for personal advancement
• 94% feel that Skyscanner invests in training and learning
• 94% agree the Skyscanner University is good initiative which provide benefits for all

Flexible working that’s not simply lip-service

Working in an innovative, fast-paced environment we are conscious of encouraging a healthy work-life balance. Flexible working at Skyscanner really does mean just that: flexible working so people can keep their own hours and work from wherever suits them best. We’re a company made up of over 35 different nationalities, and for those people working away from their home country, offer 3 weeks ‘home country working’ each year.

Often the first thing people remark upon is how fantastic our office space is. We’re pretty proud of it – bright floors, airline seat conference rooms, quirky décor and a relaxed atmosphere make for a fun environment. Our offices have some great spaces – take the multipurpose Quiet Room. Here, employees can take some time to relax or take a quiet period for spiritual and religious purposes. We also have retreats where people can go to work undisturbed, as well as a number of collaborative areas where people can work together. It’s telling that:

• 95% of employees believe Skyscanner ensures their wellbeing at work
• 91% feel their work environment is conducive to effective working
• 85% believe they can balance work and personal commitments
• 96% feel their co-workers are supportive

Five stars

On company review site Glassdoor we rate 5 stars out of 5, across all areas: for Culture & Values, Work/Life Balance, Senior Management, Comp & Benefits and Career Opportunities. 98% of employees would recommend Skyscanner as an employer, and in the Sunday Times Best Companies survey, employees are more excited about where the organisation is going than are the staff of any other firm.
