Cibao Airport to Santiago de los Caballeros is a 30 minute 16km drive via the Autopista Duarte. When driving in the city you should be aware of the high number of motorbikes and horses on the roads.
Puerto Plata is one of the island’s most popular tourist destinations and home to a number of hotel resorts due to the miles of naturally beautiful beaches where you can relax in the sun or enjoy the variety of water sports on offer.
Santiago Airport to Puerto Plata is a 1 hour 30 minute, 97km drive north via the Carr. Navarrete Puerto Plata. Although Puerto Plata has its own airport, flights to Santiago are often cheaper and as a result many choose to fly to Santiago then drive to Puerto Plata.
Surfers will be familiar with the town of Caberete as it’s considered to be one of the best destinations in the Caribbean for water sports such as surfing and kiteboarding. Beyond the water sports the El Choco National Park is considered a must visit for the caves, springs and hiking routes.
