Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.

The nearest petrol station to the airport is the Shell station on the LP-3, just outside El Fuerte. If you’re travelling on the LP-2 it’s easier to fuel up at the Cepsa on the outskirts of Santa Cruz de la Palma.

The LP-5 road runs past the airport and along the coast, so immediately you’ll find yourself cruising along as the waves crash onto the rocks beside you. We can’t think of a better way to kick off an island holiday.

Getting to your destination

Santa Cruz de la Palma

The island’s colourful capital feels like a town straight out of the Caribbean. Covered markets, interesting museums, and a beautiful old town means there’s no shortage of culture while the rolling hills nearby offer plenty of opportunity for escape.

It only takes 15 minutes to drive to the island’s capital from the airport. There’s a massive car park between the car and the ocean, so plenty of places to leave your car. There’s also plenty of accommodation in La Palma offering guest parking, if you don’t want to leave your hire car out of your sight for too long.

The warmest town in La Palma sits on the island’s west coast. With its pretty black sand beach and promenade lined with fish restaurants, Tazacorte is a great base for your La Palma holiday.

It takes about 50 minutes to drive to Tazacorte from La Palma Airport. Most of the hotels have car parking, and there are some car parks in the town where you can leave your car while you go exploring.

Los Cancajos

The island’s best loved beach resort is a chilled out town complete with Canarian tapas bars and a blue flag beach. The mountains and the capital are both within striking distance.

Los Canajos is less than ten minutes drive from the airport. Parking in the town is widely available, but it’s best to choose accommodation with a guest car park.
