Where to hire a car at Merimbula Airport
Merimbula Car Rentals offer car hire from the airport. They have a small fleet, so pre-booking is essential. A number of car hire companies also offer a meet-and-greet service, but there are no on-site offices.
Petrol stations near Merimbula Airport
If you select a 'full to full' car rental agreement you will need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There's a petrol station just off Princes Highway about five minutes drive to the south of the airport. If you're coming from Merimbula the best place to fuel up is at the petrol station near the beach.
Driving around Merimbula Airport
Traffic in Australia drives on the left, just like in the UK. If you're driving into Merimbula you can stick to the single-carriageway road from the airport. The Princes Highway, which runs along the coast and connects Sydney to Port Augusta, is just a few minutes drive to the west of the airport. From here you can reach most of the towns on the Sapphire Coast.

It takes about 5 minutes to drive into downtown Merimbula from the airport. Car parking is available in the town, although it can be tricky to find spaces during the summer high season. It's a good idea to choose a hotel with a private parking lot for extra peace of mind.
This peaceful fishing community makes a fantastic destination for a few relaxing days away from the hustle and bustle. Don't miss the Eden Killer Whale Museum: if you visit at the right time of year you might even spot some live whales too.
It takes about 20 minutes to drive to Eden if the traffic is light. Most of the accommodation in the area offers car parking facilities for guests.
This historic town in the Snowy Mountains is in the heart of platypus country: a trip to the reserve just south of the town is a must.
It takes just over an hour to drive to Bombala from Merimbula Airport. Parking is widely available, both on-street and in parking lots. If you get car-sick, watch out: the drive into the hills from Princes Highway has a lot of corners and can easily induce a weak stomach.
