On Marine Drive, north of the Wartski Drive intersection and around 8 minutes’ drive from the airport there’s a Sasol petrol station. There’s also a BP garage on Marine Drive, south of the Wartski Drive intersection and just over five minutes from the airport terminal.

Driving around Margate Airport

Margate Airport is accessed by a network of smaller roads leading to bigger thoroughfares. Close by drivers will find Marine Drive (the R620) which travels north through Margate to Port Shepstone and south through Ramsgate Beach before joining with the R61. The R61 is also easily accessed right from the airport. This road also heads north to Port Shepstone. Southbound it goes all the way to Port Edward.

It takes 10 minutes to drive from Margate Airport to Margate centre. There are various routes into the town but the quickest takes Tedder Avenue and then Wingate Avenue. The town is small but routes are meandering so a good map would be useful.

Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve

The impressive gorge and the Umzimkulwana River provide incredible scenery for visitors. There are lots of scenic picnic spots along the river and many self-guided trails where you can soak up the view. Thrill seekers will also find more adventurous activities at the park including zip wiring and bungee jumping.
Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve lies northwest of Margate Airport. It takes around 50 minutes to drive there, taking the R61 north and then cutting inland on route 2. Once you leave route 2, roads are very winding and you’ll need to allow plenty of time for you journey. There’s a petrol station in the town of Paddock, around 4 kilometres from the park and plenty of parking within the reserve.

Port Edward

Port Edward is a pretty seaside resort, particularly popular for its New Year’s Eve beach party and the Sardine Run event, a natural phenomenon occurring between May and July. There’s lots to do in the local area. Visitors can head to the local waterpark, a variety of nature reserves and the Crag’s View Wild Care Wildlife Centre.
Port Edward is located south along the coast from Margate Airport. It takes around 30 minutes to drive there, taking the R620 and the R61. The town is small and easy to navigate, both by car and on foot.
