It takes 20 minutes to drive from Lemnos Airport to Myrina. Drivers should take the Mirina-Moudrou road from the airport and follow it all the way into town. Roads in the town are old and winding so you’ll need a good map if you’re looking for somewhere specific. However, Mirina is small and easy to get around on foot so you may find it best to park up on the outskirts and do your exploring on foot.
Platy is a small village south of Mirina. It has a spectacular sandy beach with warm shallow waters, perfect for swimming. The village is sleepy and quiet but has a number of tavernas and accommodation options to choose from. Visitors come here to get a taste of real Greek island life and to enjoy complete peace and relaxation.
Platy is a 20 minute drive from Lemnos Airport, taking the Mirina-Moudrou road west from the airport and then branching off to reach the south western coast. The village is small and easy to navigate, with the sea always acting as a handy reference point.
Moudros is a historic port town, a strategic point during the First World War. South west of the town, this history is commemorated at the Allied Cemetery. The town is also home to an impressive castle and is surrounded by wetland habitats full of wildlife. Close by, visitors will find the Petrified Forest, where you can see fossilised trees, leaves and roots from over 20 million years ago.
Moudros is a ten minute drive from Lemnos Airport, taking the Mirina-Moudrou road east from the airport and following it as it curves around the bay. The town is one of the island’s largest but it’s still relatively small. As with Mirina, the town’s winding roads make parking up and walking to the attractions the best option.
