The capital of Gran Canaria to the north of the island, Las Palmas boasts an impressive array of beaches and boutique shops. Things to do in the city include the Casa-Museo de Colon which has links to Christopher Columbus, the Elder Museum of Science and Technology and the Museum of Gran Canaria. The beaches of Las Palmas hosts the annual Las Palmas Carnival.

Gran Canaria Las Palmas Airport to Las Palmas is a 25km drive via the GC-1 which takes approximately 20 minutes.

A large part of the centre of Las Palmas is pedestrianised or operates a one way system so you will need to plan your journey ahead ensuring that you have somewhere outside of this area to park your car. An underground car park is available near the bus station and many of the Las Palmas hotels have parking available.


Situated at the south of Gran Canaria is Maspalomas, a town which is known for its 2000 hectare area of Sahara-like sand dunes. Away from the beaches there are a number of luxury hotels and family friendly attractions including Aqualand, Holiday World and Sioux City.

Gran Canaria Las Palmas Airport to Maspalomas is a short 20 minute, 32km drive via the GC-1.

You will find car parking in Maspalomas at the beaches if you arrive early, the hotels and at the bus station.


Telde was the first capital of Gran Canaria and is now an archaeological delight with over 100 sites of interest in the region which you can visit. These include caves and stone houses which are surrounded by legends and mystery.

Driving from Gran Canaria Airport to Telde is a 10km, 12 minute drive north via the GC-1.
