Where to hire a car at Kaunas Airport

Petrol stations near Kaunas Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There's a Lukoil petrol station just off the E85 road, on the outskirts of the city. This is a ten minute drive south-west from the airport and is the most convenient place to top up your fuel.
Driving around Kaunas Airport
Navigating your way from the airport should be easy. The A6 highway passes the airport, and connects Kaunas with the city of Zarasai on the Latvian border. The road is a dual carriageway. If you drive south you can transfer onto the A1 motorway which runs from east to west across the country, from Vilnius to Klaipeda.

It takes just over 20 minutes to drive to the centre of Kaunas from the airport. On-street parking is widely available and fairly cheap. There are no underground car parks in the city centre, although the huge multi-storey car park at the Akropolis shopping mall is a 20 minute walk from the old town.

If you can't find cheap flights to Vilnius, you can always fly to Kaunas and drive the rest of the way. It only takes an hour and ten minutes to drive to downtown Vilnius from Kaunas Airport: not bad at all! There are four car parking price bands in Vilnius. On-street parking is chargeable from 8am to 8pm. In the cheapest zone (green) one hour costs 30 cents (about 20p) and in the most expensive (blue) parking costs €1.80 (just under £1.30) per hour.
During the summer this lake-side city becomes a popular tourist resort. There's no public transport, so if you're planning on basing yourself in Daugai a hire car is essential.
It takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to drive to Daugai from Kaunas International Airport. Daugai is quite rural, so there are loads of places to park. Most hotels, B&Bs and other accommodation options have guest car parking.
