Avis, Europcar, Sixt, Gotur and Prim-Auto all offer car hire at Chisinau Airport. Their desks can all be found inside the terminal building.
Petrol stations near Chisinau Airport
If you select a 'full to full' car rental agreement you will need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There's a Lukoil petrol station just before the airport exit if you're approaching from the east. If you're coming from the west there's a Bemol service station just a couple of minutes drive away.
Driving around Chisinau Airport
There are no major motorways in Moldova, and all roads around the airport are either single or dual carriageways. Roads surrounding the capital city are good, however the conditions do deteroriate in other parts of the country. Traffic in Moldova drives on the right, which can be tricky at first if you haven't driven abroad before. We recommend choosing a car hire package with a sat-nav system.
Getting to your destination
Chisinau Airport is the international gateway to Moldova. Most of the top destinations are within a few hours drive of the airport.
Moldova's capital city is also its liveliest destination. Despite the modern architecture, the city has centuries of history. Beautiful parks and a fine array of restaurants and museums characterise the charming city centre.
It takes about 20 minutes to drive into downtown Chisinau from the airport. The roads in Chisinau are generally better quality than other destinations in Moldova, and the city is fairly easy to navigate by car. When you search for hotels in Chisinau remember to specify that you're looking for hotels with car parking. It's better to keep your rental car in a secure car park overnight where possible.
The Roma capital of Moldova is famed for its medieval fortress. An interesting history and ethnography museum offers a fantastic glimpse into local life.
It takes just under two and a half hours to drive to Soroca from Chisinau Airport. Car parking is ample, although most places to stay have their own car parks.
This area is like Disneyland for wine lovers. Huge wineries offer plenty of tasting opportunities as well as accommodation for guests who want to stay a little longer.
It takes about an hour and thirty five minutes to drive to Purcari from Chisinau Airport. The wineries have car parking, although we recommend staying overnight so that every member of your party can sample the wares.
