Deckers gives visitors a taste of sleepy, small-town Colorado, a very different experience to the bright lights of Denver. It sits close to the South Platte River which is famous for its excellent fishing. There are also hiking and mountain biking trails nearby. The town itself is home to a general store, a fishing shop and a few places to spend the night.

Deckers is around 90 minutes’ drive from Denver International Airport, taking Peña Boulevard, then the E470 southbound before picking up route 87. There are plenty of places to park along the South Platte River and in the small village of Deckers. The village consists of just a few roads so it’s impossible to lose your way.

Eldorado Canyon State Park

Eldorado Canyon State Park can be found northwest of Denver city centre. It’s a popular spot for adventure activities including climbing, hiking, fishing, and snowshoeing. There are lots of scenic picnic spots, mountain biking trails and a historic outdoor swimming pool. If you’re lucky, you may also get a look at some of the park’s wildlife which includes deer, mountain lions, black bears and golden eagles.

The wilds of Eldorado Canyon State Park can be reached in 50 minutes from Denver International Airport. Drivers should take Peña Boulevard, pick up the E-470 heading north and then join route 36 heading north west. Lower and higher parking lots are available throughout the park.
