We’re celebrating the growth of the Skyscanner team today with the acquisition of mobile app development and design specialists Distinction.

The acquisition gives us the chance to really take control of our own destiny when it comes to app development and it’s been a busy year already for Skyscanner’s mobile product teams with the launch of two new apps.

Our 30 new Budapest-based colleagues at Distinction have worked with us for some time now on app development projects, most recently on the launch of our hotel app, which is available on iOS and Android.

With a focus on innovation and a determination to ensure that all apps have the user experience at their very heart, there was an instant feel that the team ‘got’ what we were about and has taken the same approach to design and programming as we do here at Skyscanner. So we’ve high hopes of what we can achieve as a new combined mobile team.

Budapest becomes Skyscanner’s eighth global office and it’s a pretty inspiring and creative workspace that, dare we say it, even rivals Skyscanner’s existing offices with its own table football, popcorn maker and a 3D printer.

The team is set to grow even further with additional roles being created over the coming months. Our mobile growth isn’t limited to our new team in Budapest either – we’re continuing to build the teams across our offices to expand our mobile development capabilities. Anyone wanting to keep an eye out on new roles can check out our recruitment site.

Skyscanner’s co-founder and CEO Gareth Williams talks below on what the acquisition means to the company and, on behalf of everyone at Skyscanner, passes on a warm welcome to our new colleagues in Hungary.
