Vietnam Airlines flights

The flag carrying airline of Vietnam flies to 52 destinations across 17 countries, and was establishedin 1956: two years after the Vietnam War began. Although the war got in the way of the airline’s development, in recent years it has been going from strength to strength. It’s been a member of SkyTeam since 2010, and was the first Southeast Asian carrier to join. Vietnam Airlines is dreaming big, with aspirations of being the second largest full service carrier in Southeast Asia by 2020.

How to Check In

You can check in at the airport. It’s recommended that you arrive at least an hour before domestic flights, and 120 minutes before international ones. Check-in desks usually open two and a half hours before departure for international flights, and two hours before departure for domestic flights. You can also check in online, from 24 hours before departure up until 2 hours before.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

There are different baggage allowances for different routes. For flights originating in Europe the allowance is 40kg in business class and deluxe economy and 30kg in economy. Excess baggage is charged at a per kilo, per zone rate depending on where you’re travelling. For example: excess luggage on flights from Vietnam to Cambodia will incur a charge of $5* (about £3.10) per kilo, and on flights from Vietnam to Europe there will be a charge of $30* (around £18.70) per kilo. *Prices subject to change

Seating – Leg Room, Choosing Seats

Vietnam Airlines offer a comfortable amount of legroom. Seat pitch in economy is a good 33”, business class passengers benefit from a seat pitch of 38”, while first class travellers can really stretch out with 52”-59”. Seats are assigned at check-in, and you can choose where you want to sit when you check in online.

Meals, Snacks, Drinks

Meals are served on all routes. During flights between Vietnam and Europe/Australia economy class passengers can enjoy two meals, as well as instant noodles on request. Flights between Vietnam and Japan/Korea showcase delicacies from the destination, but also offer other Asian and Western options for fussy flyers. On flights to Malaysia all meals are halal.

Vietnam Airlines are a fairly reliable airline, with over three quarters of flights arriving at their destination on time.
