Flights to Belarus

Sometimes known as “the enigma at the heart of Europe”, Belarus is a country that has almost isolated itself from the rest of the continent. That’s no bad thing, however. Although often misunderstood, Belarus is a beautiful country packed with culture, history, and the warmest people you could hope to meet. The country is still more Soviet Union than European Union, so it’s a great place to visit if you want a break from gaudy advertising and in your face capitalism.

If you’re booking flights to Belarus, look for flights to the following airports.

Minsk National Airport (MSQ)

The main international airport in Belarus, Minsk Airport is 26 miles outside of the Belarussian capital. It’s the hub of the flag carrying airline, Belavia, and is likely to be your first stop in Belarus if you’re flying in from the UK. Although there’s plenty to discover in the rest of Belarus, it’s definitely worth spending a few nights (if not more) in Minsk. It’s a vibrant city complete with a buzzing nightlife, amazing restaurants, and trendy coffee bars.

Gomel Airport (GME)

This airport serves Gomel, the second city of Belarus, and is mainly a hub for charter flights to popular European holiday destinations including Bulgaria and Greece. Gomel itself is a great destination, with plenty of theatres and art galleries to keep culture vultures entertained and lots of beautiful architecture. The city itself dates back to the 12th Century, so there are plenty of interesting sights and stories for history buffs.

Hrodna Airport (GNA)

This small airport is closest to the city of Grodno, one of the most beautiful cities in Belarus. As well as being easy on the eye, Grodno is also packed with culture. The region boasts three theatres, fifteen museums, two music colleges, and its own philharmonic society. Grodno is a favourite destination with pilgrims who want to visit the St Uspensky Zhirovichi men’s monastery, which is home to the Zhirovichi Mother of God icon.

Brest Airport (BQT)

Not to be confused with the airport in France, Brest airport in Belarus serves the south-western corner of the country. The Brest region is known for its outstanding natural beauty, with lots of national parks and nature reserves featuring rare animals and plant-life. There are fortresses, monasteries, palaces, and important memorials to visit making it an interesting place for a relaxing yet  cultural holiday in Belarus.
