The company generated travel bookings for airline partners in excess of £2.3 billion in 2012. It has increased EBITDA by 153% to £12 million, and revenue by 65% to £33.5 million for the year ended 31 December 2012.
Skyscanner’s mobile apps have been downloaded over 12 million times and the iOS app rating, a key factor in travel search, is currently close to 5 stars. The site is now available in 40 countries and 30 languages.
Skyscanner has trebled the number of visitors to the site from Asia-Pacific in 2012, following the opening of offices in Singapore and Beijing. Asia now represents 18 per cent of overall traffic to the site. In August, Skyscanner opened an office in Beijing to drive continued growth across the region and signed a deal with China’s number one search engine, Baidu.
Skyscanner plans to replicate its Asian success across the Americas and is opening an office in Miami this year to underpin its ambitious growth plans for North and South America.
Skyscanner now employs over 180 staff from 35 nationalities across its four offices and will be recruiting another 100 employees over the next 12 months.
