Virgin Atlantic has been named the most child-friendly airline in the UK after a poll by Rough Guides. The survey found that 36 per cent of voters preferred Virgin when holidaying with their children, while British Airways came a close second with 32 per cent.
"Aside from baggage restrictions, budget airlines tend to be allocated inconvenient gates in airports, involving walking long distances, negotiating stairs and buses etc - tough going with small children," explained the author of the Rough Guide survey, Fawzia Rasheed de Francisco. She added that budget airlines also make it more difficult for families with tight policies over changing tickets and flight details.
However, all airlines should expect some dissatisfaction from families travelling, as the poll found that 22 per cent consider journeys with children as "hell on earth".
