Taking Off

Skyscanner Festival in Sky – this unique dining experience is taking off – literally – at the Edinburgh Festival this August, and Skyscanner is proud to be its sponsor. Eat at 100ft above the beautiful Scottish capital enjoying top class nosh and great views. Like the sound of that? We’ve got five sets of four seats to give away.

The Zephyr solar powered plane – deemed the first ‘eternal aircraft’, this solar-powered craft has landed after two weeks of non-stop flying! We’re loving the possibilities that sun-powered planes could have for the future. OK, so it was unmanned, but it certainly bodes well for a cleaner, greener era of aviation.

– Goodbye New York, hello Newport! This spoof version of Alicia Keys and Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’, raised a lot of smiles in the Skyscanner office.

Created by Welsh rapper Alex Warren, singer Terema Wainwright and filmmaker Morgan Jane Delaney, it pays homage to Newport in place of New York and features scenes of the city and a great set of lyrics with lines like:

“When you’re in Newport...chips, cheese, curry makes you feel brand new, washed down with a Special Brew....when you’re in Newport....twinned with Guangxi province in China, there’s no province finer...”.

Good work.

Crashing Down

The demise of Goldtrail – another unfortunate victim of the tough economic times. If you’ve been affected and need some advice see our travel tips.

Ford to stop making classic New York Taxi – nooooo! Without the classic sedan-style yellow cab (called the ‘Crown Vic’), the Big Apple will never be the same again. However, it’s not all bad news; the replacement models (Ford Escape and Toyota Sienna) will be hybrid vehicles which are both cheaper and greener to run.

Oil spills – can everyone please be more careful with their oil? It ain’t cheap. Thanks.
