The long-awaited launch of the Appstore gives customers access to Amazon’s wide selection of Android apps, including Skyscanner’s free app, just as they would shop on Amazon, directly from their Android device.
This offers another significant opportunity for the hugely-successful Skyscanner app, which has already proved to be a massive hit with smartphone and tablet users. In December 2011, Skyscanner saw total downloads for its mobile apps hit five million in just ten months. Its popularity has soared in 2012, with one download every two-and-a-half seconds.
The flight comparison app brings the highly flexible functionality of the Skyscanner site to Appstore shoppers, who will be able to find the lowest fares on the go with just a few quick taps. By searching over 1000 airlines and travel agents, Skyscanner offers all the options and finds the perfect flight in one easy app, saving money and saving time.
Continual innovation has seen new features added to the app, such as an interactive globe that allows users to spin, zoom and browse flight prices around the world. Busy users can email flight details to themselves for later, keep an eye on flight prices by pinning flight searches to the start screen, and share flight details with friends, family or colleagues - ideal for a group trip - with just one tap.
Skyscanner’s apps are free to download from the iTunes, Android and Windows Phone market places. You can download the Amazon Appstore now.
*In Germany, France and Italy, the Android marketplace will be called 'App-Shop'. In Spain, it will be branded 'Tienda Apps'.
