A man was found trying to smuggle his pet turtle onto a China Southern Airlines flight by concealing the creature in a KFC hamburger.
As scientists revealed the world's first synthetic 'meat' patty this week, a burger of a very real form hit the news. Airport staff at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport discovered the hidden reptile while the unnamed passenger was going through security. Keen-eyed security were alerted to something a little questionable when unusual ‘protrusions’ coming from the sandwich inside his bag were picked up on the x-ray.
Upon being asked whether he was trying to smuggle a turtle, the passenger, who was on his way to Beijing, said: “There's no turtle in there – just a hamburger. There's nothing special to see inside."
But, sadly, his beloved turtle’s time was up, and the passenger was forced to leave his travelling turtle behind with a friend before boarding his flight.
At least he was able to eat his KFC hamburger. KFT anyone?
