About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional individual to project manage a raft of exciting projects that will help us realise our goal of becoming one of the top 100 websites in the world.
Core Responsibilities
Project Start-Up:
- Work closely with Skyscanner stakeholders to understand the business requirements for the project.
- Define project phases & deliverables for each phase, ensuring stakeholder buy-in at each stage.
- Create project & resource plans, work closely with stakeholders to ensure planned project meets constraints WRT budget, timescales, technical architecture & resources.
- Identify risks associated with project & develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
Day-to-Day Project Management:
- Manage the development & delivery of project phases, ensuring each deliverable is complete, supportable and of appropriate quality.
- Manage, monitor and motivate resources assigned to the project.
- Create regular progress reports to the Project Board & ad-hoc written updates as required.
- Regular and excellent communication & liaison with stakeholders, project team etc.
- Ongoing maintenance of work plans, resource schedules etc.
- Ongoing monitoring & management of risks & issues; appropriate and considered escalation & mitigation of these where necessary.
- React to new ideas or ‘adjustments’ in project direction in a flexible, supportive & creative manner, exploiting creative input whilst managing expectations. The outcome being either keeping the project on track or providing the Project Stakeholders with the required information to make a realistic risk Vs value decision on project changes.
Project Management responsibilities are expected to be executed using a considered, flexible approach, utilising the best features of Agile, Risk-based & traditional project management methodologies.
Core Competencies
- Ability to manage project start-up phase, liaising with stakeholders, facilitating discussions and documenting user requirements.
- Experience of the whole project life cycle, able to operate in the initial conceptual design stage, in the depths of system testing, and at each stage in between.
- Ability to scope, plan and budget projects, incorporating crucial details such as risk management and return on investment.
- Technically capable enough to support the technical lead in maintaining the architectural integrity of the project & actively manage highly technical team members.
- Ability to supervise, motivate & nurture all those in the team, creating an empowering environment whilst also motivating individuals when required.
- Ability to ensure that all projects are executed within budget, to time and to high standards.
- Outstanding communication & relationship management skills.
- Strong influencing & leadership skills.
- Adaptability & flexibility, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, creative environment but with the confidence and resilience not to be fazed when things really hot-up!
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- A proven track record of successful software development project implementation.
- Experience of managing web and database software development and testing.
- Team management experience, comfortable managing project teams of up to 10 people.
- Graduate calibre, with at least five years experience in project management.
- Good communicator, strong leader & influencer.
- Professional, flexible, adaptable & pragmatic, able to work and adapt in a fast-moving, creative team.
- A demonstrable understanding of a range of project management methodologies & their benefits & limitations.
Desirable:
- Experience in travel/airline or related industries.
- Experience of working in a small web company, including SEO and user experience management.
- Demonstrable understanding of programme management.
